Mahalo for Attending the 2015 Hawaii Public Health Conference

“Health is Everyone’s Kuleana”

October 9, 2015 at the Hawaii Convention Center

Aloha HPHA Members and our Public Health Community Partners;

On behalf of the 2015-16 Board of Directors of the Hawaii Public Health Association, the Hawaii State Department of Health, our conference co-sponsors and our conference planning Committee, we want to thank you for participating, along with over 300 fellow colleagues, students and friends in the 2015 Hawaii Public Health Conference.

The focus for this year’s conference, Health is Everyone’s Kuleana, was not typical in its design and approach, in that broader cross-cutting public health themes which impact all of public health and our communities were the focus, including diverse and detailed panel discussions that took place on Health and the Built Environment, as well as Addressing Health Disparities within a Health-in-All-Policies Framework.

We also heard from our dynamic incoming American Public Health Association (APHA) President-Elect, Dr. Camara Jones, who will inspired us to greater thinking and action with her talk on Achieving Health Equity.

Even at lunch, there was food for thought, provided via the special panel discussion by Hawaii State Administrators focusing on The State Perspective on Addressing the Social Determinants of Health.

We all had opportunities throughout the day to visit public health exhibits provided by an array of Hawaii and national organizations, as well as network with new and long-time acquaintances and colleagues at our post-conference reception, hosted by the Hawaii Public Health Institute (HIPHI).

HPHA is posting all available panel and plenary presentations online on our HPHA website soon, and we encourage you also to visit our photo gallery on the 2015 conference, located at http://www.hawaiipublichealth.org/Photo-Gallery.

We look forward to working on key actions and issues provided at this meeting in the coming year, and we invite you to join us in this effort.

Mahalo, Nancy S. Partika, President, Hawaii Public Health Association
